Our menu tonight gives a clear example how surprising South-Africa's kitchen is. Because our main dish Bobotie origins from 17th century Indonesia! The link? The Dutch colonialists, on their way home, stopped in the Cape of Good Hope settlement, ate their Indonesian 'Bobotok' there and left the recipe behind. Nowadays Bobotie has been declared a South-African national dish, and it comes in many variations.
