Belgium is one of the few countries where - as rumours say - hamburger giant McDonald's is constantly losing money. Home cooking and ordinary restaurants are much more popular. Belgium has per capita the highest number of restaurants with famous Michelin stars. And yet, the Belgian cuisine is underrated: it did not spread its blessings all over the world. Tonight we try to contribute spreading the good food, as far as our small place can spread anything. We feature a few favourites especially from the northern part of Belgium, Dutch speaking Vlaanderen or Flanders. In Vlaamse/Flemish dishes the use of the national drink, beer, is quite common. Our main dish tonight is a delicious example.

We start with delicate thin fresh asparagus with egg crumbs and a warm special butter sauce.

Vlaamse Karbonaden are a full cousin of the French Boeuf Bourguignon. The difference is the national drink: the French stew the meat in wine, the Belgians in beer. Our (as always) imported beef comes with small fried potato rolls and cauliflower combined with cheese and mushrooms.
