HUNGRY ? HUNGARY !


The motto tonight is very true: come to theSawah with an empty stomach, because you will enjoy Hungarian food more if you are really hungry. The cuisine of the country is sometimes described as heavy or stodgy but we prefer the words rich or firm to characterize it.
The hearty beef and vegetable mix that is world wide known as goulash (Hungarians name it gulyas) can be prepared as a filling soup or as a tasty main dish (see photo).
Potatoes, paprika, sour cream and eggs feature heavily in Hungarian kitchens. The culinary meeting of Eastern and Western Europe make Hungarian cooking of a diverse and interesting nature.
Hungarian Farmer's Soup
The starter today is a firm Hungarian farmer's soup with ground meat, chopped cabbage, potato cubes, kidney beans and rice.
Beef-and-Beer Goulash
with Potato Dumplings
Hungary's internationally renowned beef goulash (photo) is our main dish for today. But we make it more exceptional with the use of beer in which we tenderly cook the cubes of imported beef. Other ingredients are tomatoes, green peas and of course a substantial amount of the famous paprika (capsicums as English speaking guests know them) for that typical Hungarian taste. Distinct without being wild spicy. The goulash comes with small potato balls in flour.
Apple-Raisin Soup Budapest
To conclude your Hungarian culinary tour we serve you a cold dessert from the capital: thick fruit soup with apple and raisins and a touch of brandy.
